The Long-Term Effects of COVID to You and Your Property

In the later months of 2019, news of a newly-detected virus from China started to float in the air. As early as November of that year, there were already reports of people getting infected by this unknown virus. Being a new disease, doctors were having difficulty treating the victims.

In February 2020, experts named the disease COVID or corona virus because its spiky structure resembles a crown. Around this time, most nations also started to resort to nationwide lockdowns to stop the spread of the virus.

Almost three years since the corona virus was first detected, the world is still going through the long-haul COVID effects.

Severe Effects of COVID

Experts from different fields of science consider the COVID-19 disease as one of the most destructive viruses in the last 100 years. The after-effects of COVID involve different aspects of one’s life. Here are some of them:

1. Long-term Effects of COVID on Physical Health

Some patients who got infected by the COVID-19 virus, either in mild or severe cases, can still suffer from the so-called post-COVID syndrome. Even after testing negative for the virus, some patients can still feel its effect long after they have left the hospital. Here are some of those effects:

  • Lungs and Heart – Before a COVID patient gets released from a medical facility, they need to test negative for the virus. In some cases, patients who already tested negative still have difficulty breathing.
When patients get infected by COVID, their lungs and heart weaken tremendously, especially if they have underlying ailments. COVID can aggregate these, leading to delayed recovery and other post-COVID symptoms.
  • Brain – Other post-COVID symptoms involve the fogginess of the brain. Recent studies show that people with mild or severe COVID can suffer from short-term memory loss or foggy brain. Full recovery from this side-effect is unknown because the results of the studies vary.
  • Muscles – When people who are infected with COVID get admitted to hospitals for several days, they can suffer from muscle loss which is often difficult to regain. The victim will need to eat healthily and have a strict exercise program. People suffering from this post-COVID syndrome might need a few months to recover completely. Though it is sometimes challenging, exercising is beneficial to strengthening the heart and the lungs. These respiratory organs are made of muscles, and regular exercise can help boost cardio strength, eradicating the long-term effects of COVID.

2. Long-term Effects of COVID on the Economy

The country’s economy has undoubtedly suffered from long-haul COVID effects. When the government imposed lockdowns, it restricted the movement of goods and services, which is the bread and butter of every sector in society. More than two years into the pandemic, the country still feels the long-term effects of COVID from an economic standpoint.

There are establishments that, until today, haven’t gone back to full business operation. Because of this, the foundations of their buildings have weakened. When a building remains uninhabited or unoccupied for a prolonged period, it eventually deteriorates due to lack of maintenance. The weakened structural integrity is one of the serious after-effects of COVID on the economy.

In pre-pandemic times, these commercial buildings were buzzing with life from numerous business transactions. However, since the lockdown, many companies have decided to adopt a work-from-home setup while children get home-schooled, leaving several business infrastructures unoccupied and with no regular maintenance services.

3. Long-term Effects of COVID on Disinfecting Materials

Some chemical-based disinfectants that people use to eradicate traces of the COVID-19 virus have adverse effects on the environment, on the physical body of people, and on building structures.

Most disinfectants come in airtight spray cans. These types of containers use aerosol to release the disinfecting liquid. Although they are highly effective in disinfecting the air and various surfaces, these products are harmful to the environment. Each spray contributes to the further depletion of the ozone layer, resulting in the worsening of the global warming phenomenon.

Ethyl and Isopropyl alcohol are also effective in killing the COVID-19 virus. However, excessive use of these substances has a long-term effect on your skin. They can make it dry, scaly, and itchy, which can turn into a serious wound. Having an open wound with the COVID virus still in the air can make you more susceptible to contracting the disease. Some alcohols also have strong chemical content that can cause damage to your respiratory organs and lead to labored breathing.

How to Avoid COVID and Its Effects in the Long-Term

If you are still wondering how long does COVID last after almost three years since it first caused global havoc, the answer remains unknown. Studies by experts show varying results while variants and sub-variants of the virus keep popping up in different parts of the world.

One thing is clear though; people will need to learn to live with COVID for now. According to experts, the virus is still here, and could stay with us for a long time. The vaccines that have been developed only help limit the long-term effects of COVID on the human body, but the transmission level of the virus is still almost the same.

If you want to limit the spread of the disease, regular disinfection as performed by professionals is helpful. They normally use disinfectants that can effectively kill different viruses, including COVID.

These experts in decontamination and mitigation use a distinct disinfectant formula that doesn’t harm your property’s foundation and the valuable items kept inside. They understand that some furniture sets and fixtures are sensitive to certain chemicals, so when they notice that some of these items are showing adverse reactions, they can work on protecting them. With the help of these disinfection specialists, you can ensure the safety of your loved ones.
